Twelve Corners Cemetery
THE HISTORY OF TWELVE CORNERS CEMETERY
The Twelve Corners Cemetery is located approximately nine miles north of Appleton at the intersection of Center Valley Road and Twelve Corners Road in the Township of Center, in a very peaceful country setting. To reach the cemetery take highway 47 north of Appleton to Center Valley Road, then turn left.
The cemetery became part of the church ministry in February of 1996. Originally the cemetery was part of the ministry of St. Matthias Lutheran Church, which was located on grounds of cemetery in area where the cremation garden is located. That church closed its doors in 1929, and the cemetery fell into a state of disrepair and neglect.
The cemetery was reclaimed by the Eagle Scout project of Gary Koerner in 1976, and in 1978 the families of those buried in the cemetery formed the St. Matthias Cemetery Association and filed legal documents with the State of Wisconsin to become the owners of the cemetery. In 1995 the Association decided that they could no longer continue to care for the cemetery. They began looking for a church to take over this responsibility. St. John UCC was approached because a number of families who have loved one buried in the cemetery are members of our fellowship.
In 2017 Noah Eichstaedt took on the expansion and special fencing of the Angel Garden as his Eagle Scout project. In addition, Noah built and installed 7 sitting benches throughout the cemetery, for family and visitors to relax and reflect.
OUR PURPOSE
It is our purpose to provide Economical burial plots to members of St. John UCC and others who may have such need, and to provide a beautiful setting for persons to pay respect to and remember their loved ones.
